The idea came to the other night while listening to They Might Be Giants to do a series of posters based on some of their songs. They have very quirky lyrics and I thought it would be fun to illustrate them. Here’s a sampling of what I’ve come up with so far.
The Famous Polka – Miscellaneous T
I Am Not Your Broom – No!
You Probably Get That A Lot – Join Us
Birdhouse In Your Soul – Flood
They’ll Need A Crane – Lincoln
Wicked Little Critta – Mink Car
Experimental Film – The Spine

I had another late night of printing at AS220 with my printing buddy Mike. This time we letterpressed a Save the Date card for him and two mini-birthday cards for Steph. I wanted to make something personal for her birthday so I thought using the first initials of our names seemed like a good idea – “S” and “P”. After designing several styles of letters I decided to make it a little more conceptual. That’s when the salt & pepper idea came about. I also wanted to figure out how to make it relatively easy to print. Both cards use the same plates with the “S” and “P” swapping out as well as a blind deboss for the salt and a dark gray ink for the pepper. Finally, I hot foil stamped the top of the shakers. Here are some photos (photos taken by Fetching Photo).

I’ve always thought that when looking at road bike handlebars from the side, at right angle, they look like an ampersand. So I thought I would make this: H&lebars Poster. Next time you see a road bike take a look and let me know what you think.

Bicycles have been a huge part of my life since I was a little kid. I grew up jumping off of sidewalk and roots sticking out of the ground. Eventually, I moved up to cinder block jumps, then many years later to the big boy ramps. My first “real” Freestyle bike was a white 1985 Haro Sport. The series of posters below are some of my other favorite old school freestyle bikes: Haro Master, Hutch Trick Star and GT Pro Freestyle Tour. I’ve got other posters in mind too, possible bikes could be a CW California Freestyler, Dyno Pro Compe, Redline RL 20II or maybe a Skyway Street Beat, so keep an eye out for them.

I’m a big fan of Flight of the Conchords. Bret & Jermaine are hilarious. I decided to make a two part poster set of them based on the lyrics 24 Carat Gold Tears of a Rapper from their song “Hurt Feelings.” Each poster is a portrait of Bret & Jermaine with a 24 Carat Gold Tear inspired by the Shephard Fairy, Eye Alert poster.
